BLNS’ Instructors and Students Participating in the Tobacco Control Academic Conference

Dr.Phat Prapawichar, the Associate Dean, Asst.Prof.Dr.Siriporn Poonruksa, A.Napasawan Namboonsri, and two sophomore nursing students; Ms. Pacharaton Suwanvisate and Ms.Sirikorn Kvammana participated in the academic conference entitled “Nurses Say No for Electronic Cigarette: The Nursing Competency Development for Thai Tobacco Free Society” organized by Nurse Network on Tobacco Control of Thailand on 25 May 2023 at Maruay Garden Hotel, Bangkok.

This academic conference aims to update knowledge on the prevalence of electronic cigarette use in Thailand and skills on its quitting for 200 professional nurses and nursing students working on tobacco control to celebrate World No Tobacco Day which is on 31 May 2023. This year World Health Organization (WHO) creates the campaign with the motto “We need food, not tobacco” emphasizing on tobacco growing harms farmers’ health and also the planet’s health. The campaign encourages the government to end tobacco growing subsidies and use the savings to support farmers to switch to more sustainable crops that improve food security and nutrition (https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-no-tobacco-day/2023).
