Honoring Tradition and Embracing the Future: Capping Ceremony Held for the Faculty of Nursing Science, Class of 2026

Assumption University, Hua Mak Campus — June 2, 2025

On June 2, 2025, the Faculty of Nursing Science at Assumption University held its Capping Ceremony for the Class of 2026, a meaningful and symbolic tradition that marks nursing students’ formal transition from academic preparation to clinical practice. Surrounded by faculty members, family, and honored guests, the event celebrated the dedication, compassion, and professionalism that define the heart of nursing.

Rooted in the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the Capping Ceremony honors the values of service, integrity, and lifelong learning. Each nursing student received a white cap, a long-standing symbol of the nursing profession, along with a lit candle that echoes Nightingale’s lamp — a beacon of light and hope she carried during her nightly rounds caring for wounded soldiers. The ceremony serves as a powerful reminder of the noble journey the students are about to embark upon.

A highlight of the event was the presence of Rev. Bro. Dr. Sirichai Fonseka, President of Assumption University, who delivered a heartfelt message to the students. He expressed his deep appreciation for the nursing profession, acknowledging the critical role nurses play in the healthcare system and society at large. In a touching moment, Rev. Bro. Dr. Sirichai noted the tired but sincere expressions on the faces of the students, recognizing the sacrifices they have already made in their journey. He reminded them that their efforts, though demanding, carry immense value and meaning — and that their presence alone brings comfort to those they care for.

The ceremony also included a candle-lighting ritual and the recitation of the Nightingale Pledge, as students collectively vowed to uphold the standards of ethical practice, compassion, and dedication in their future clinical work.

The Faculty of Nursing Science extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2026. This ceremony not only celebrates their academic progress but also affirms their readiness to step into the world as capable, caring, and committed professional nurses. The road ahead may be challenging, but with each step, they carry forward the light of those who came before them — and the hopes of those they will serve.
