Global Healthcare Exchange: University of Stavanger Nursing Students Visit

Assumption University of Thailand (AU) welcomed the two Public Health Nursing students, Ms. Marie Balchen and Ms. Silje Tjosvoll from the University of Stavanger (UIS), a highly respected institution in Norway known for its excellence in healthcare education and research. They are practicing their internship at the Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science from February 24–March 21, 2025. This internship practicum is under the project “Overseas Internship” which is responsible by Dr. Chavalee Boonto. Dr.Varunaj                Churnai, ABAC alumni, is the co-ordinator of the Norwegian Mission Society, Thailand which helps to make this cultural exchange happened.

Dr.Phat Prapawichar, Dean of Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, and her team arranged warm-welcome lunch to these students and the co-ordinator on February 24, 2025. They were a tour of AU’s  both Hua Mak Campus and Suvarnabhumi Campus on February 24 and February 28, 2025. The group explored this iconic library, renowned for its stunning architecture and world-class resources, and left inspired by what they discovered.

The visit of these two students not only strengthened the bond between AU and UIS, but also highlighted the value of cultural exchange and shared learning. This session provided the Norwegian students with valuable exposure to Thailand’s healthcare system and activities provided for health promotion and disease prevention to the people in the community, particularly, infant, small children, and adolescence.

 

Within a month, the students organized activities and deliver health education sessions aim at promoting health and preventing disease at Kee-Fa-Yah Children Care Center and Ngam-Mana Secondary School. They also learn how to provide services at Health Care Center 21 (primary care level), Wat That Thong, including Maternal care (ANC), and the well-baby clinic. Additionally, they visit two communities-Koh Klang Community and 53 Fang Sai Conmmunity-to understand how to assess community characteristics, family dynamics, people, and the environment.
